CrowdStrike to acquire Spanish telemetry startup Onum

CrowdStrike has announced plans to acquire Onum, a company that manages real-time telemetry data pipelines, to enhance its Falcon next-gen SIEM platform.

The deal aims to improve the speed and efficiency of data integration and threat detection within CrowdStrike’s security operations tool.

CrowdStrike said Onum’s technology will allow for real-time data streaming and in-pipeline analysis.

This could reduce reliance on third-party migration tools. Onum’s system can process security and observability data in real time, though financial terms were not disclosed.

Onum’s founder, Pedro Castillo, said joining CrowdStrike will help expand its data pipeline capabilities within the Falcon platform.

CrowdStrike, listed on Nasdaq, develops cloud-based cybersecurity software for enterprise clients.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Cybersecurity consolidation accelerates as leaders acquire specialized capabilities

CrowdStrike’s $290 million acquisition of Onum demonstrates how established cybersecurity companies are aggressively buying specialized startups to maintain competitive advantages2.

This acquisition pattern reflects rapid industry consolidation, with CrowdStrike itself having completed its own transformation from startup to public company in just eight years, going from founding in 2011 to a $612 million IPO in 20193.

Onum, founded only in 2022, raised nearly $42 million before being acquired for $290 million, showing how quickly valuable cybersecurity technologies can command premium valuations2.

The deal fits within a broader cybersecurity market projected to grow from $76 billion to nearly $100 billion by 2025, creating intense pressure for companies to acquire capabilities rather than build them internally4.

2️⃣ Real-time data processing becomes the new competitive battleground

The Onum acquisition highlights a fundamental shift in cybersecurity from traditional batch processing to real-time data pipeline management, with specific performance improvements that directly impact operational efficiency.

Onum’s technology delivers up to five times more events per second than competitors while reducing data storage costs by 50 percent and accelerating incident response times by 70 percent1.
