CrowdStrike shares fall after forecast below estimates

CrowdStrike shares fell about 5% in after-hours trading on June 4, 2025, after the cybersecurity firm issued a revenue forecast below analysts’ expectations.

For the fiscal first quarter ending April 30, the company reported adjusted earnings per share of 73 cents, exceeding the 65 cents projected by analysts.

Revenue was US$1.10 billion, matching forecasts and reflecting a 20% year-on-year increase.

However, the company recorded a net loss of US$110.2 million, or 44 cents per share. This is compared to a net income of US$42.8 million, or 17 cents per share, during the same period last year.

Increased costs in sales, marketing, research, and development contributed to the loss, partly due to a software outage last year.

For the current quarter, CrowdStrike projected adjusted earnings of 82 to 84 cents per share and revenue between US$1.14 billion and US$1.15 billion.

Analysts had anticipated earnings of 81 cents per share and revenue of US$1.16 billion.

1️⃣ Pivot to profitability over pure growth signals company maturation

CrowdStrike’s financial moves reveal a strategic shift toward profitability metrics rather than maximizing revenue growth at all costs.

Despite disappointing revenue guidance, the company raised its full-year earnings per share outlook from $3.33-3.45 to $3.44-3.56, clearly prioritizing bottom-line improvement1.

This pivot is further reinforced by the recently announced 5% workforce reduction (approximately 500 jobs) combined with a substantial $1 billion share repurchase program2.

The CFO’s explicit statement targeting a free cash flow margin above 30% for fiscal 2027 confirms this disciplined financial approach2.

These actions reflect the typical progression of technology companies transitioning from pure growth mode to more balanced financial models as their market position solidifies.

While still delivering 20% year-over-year revenue growth (US$1.1 billion this quarter), CrowdStrike is now emphasizing profitability improvements that appeal to investors seeking sustainable business models in the cybersecurity sector.
