Creators urge Biden to protect TikTok from upcoming ban
TikTok users are urging the American government to intervene before a scheduled ban on the app that is set to take effect on Jan. 19.
A lawyer representing content creators on the platform has requested that the Biden administration and the Justice Department assure Apple and Google about TikTok’s continued availability in their app stores.
Jeffrey Fisher, who represents TikTok users, urged Attorney General Merrick Garland and President Biden to delay enforcing the law until clearer guidance is given.
Fisher warned that under the new law, TikTok and other apps owned by the China-based company ByteDance would have to cease operations if no action is taken.
The letter requests assurance that app stores, internet hosting services, and other providers won’t face enforcement or penalties for maintaining access to TikTok accessible while awaiting guidance.
Neither the White House nor the Justice Department has responded to this issue.
