US court denies Musk’s request over OpenAI’s for-profit shift
A United States federal court has denied Elon Musk’s request for a preliminary injunction to block OpenAI’s shift to a for-profit model.
The ruling was issued on Mar. 4 by US district judge, Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers.
Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers ruled that Musk failed to meet the legal standard for an injunction, with a trial possible later this year.
Musk claims OpenAI, which he co-founded in 2015, was meant to be a nonprofit focused on AI development for public benefit.
He argues the shift violates OpenAI’s founding mission and expanded his lawsuit in December to include antitrust claims.
OpenAI defended its restructuring as necessary to secure AI development funding and welcomed the court’s decision.
