CoreWeave, Vast Data ink $1.2b deal to build AI cloud infrastructure
CoreWeave has signed a US$1.2 billion deal with Vast Data to use Vast’s AI operating system as the foundation for its cloud data infrastructure.
CoreWeave, a US-based cloud provider focused on AI workloads, will now be able to deploy Vast’s platform across its data centers for customers.
The expanded partnership will also see both companies deliver integrated data services to joint customers.
Vast Data and CoreWeave said the partnership aims to enhance data pipelines and support advanced AI model development.
Both firms plan to build infrastructure to support continuous AI training, real-time inference, and large-scale data processing.
CoreWeave’s infrastructure uses GPU acceleration, while VAST Data provides the underlying operating system for managing large datasets.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
The deal structure reveals little about how CoreWeave will integrate and deploy VAST’s platform
- The $1.17 billion deal 1 makes VAST Data CoreWeave’s main data store. Key terms stay undisclosed from contract length plus what the spend covers to rollout timing plus any exclusivity that blocks rival storage.
- CoreWeave ended Q2 2025 with about 470 megawatts of active power capacity and plans to top 900 megawatts by year-end 2. The announcement lists no site count or schedule, which muddies revenue and readiness.
- VAST sells 4 to 5 year software subscriptions with hardware from third-party manufacturers 3. The total may mix licenses with implementation and support, which affects revenue timing and margins.
Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) and managed service providers can capture demand as workloads migrate to CoreWeave’s VAST-powered infrastructure
- The Weights and Biases deal added 1,600 client relationships across finance, healthcare, and AI startups 2. Weights and Biases is MLOps software for experiment tracking and model lifecycle tooling. That boosts demand for migration tools plus ETL pipelines (Extract, Transform, Load). It also drives observability solutions (software that monitors data pipelines plus troubleshoots infrastructure) that fit CoreWeave and VAST 2.
- VAST’s design creates work for security firms that add compliance for customers that need data sovereignty (keeping data within legal jurisdictions and under local control) plus audit trails 3.
- The ventures arm backs AI ecosystem firms with compute-for-equity (providing cloud compute resources in exchange for equity stakes) 4. That creates paths for infrastructure startups to optimize flows between VAST storage and CoreWeave GPU clusters.
