ComfortDelGro’s Zig to invest over $7.8m in BYD fleet
ComfortDelGro, a Singapore-based transport operator, said on August 20 that its private-hire arm Zig will invest more than S$10 million (US$7.83 million) to add new electric and hybrid BYD vehicles to its fleet in Singapore.
The move is part of efforts to renew vehicles, optimize its fleet mix, and add supply on the Zig app.
ComfortDelGro said the investment will give vehicle hirers more choices and support its plan to shift its point-to-point business from a traditional taxi-led operator to a hybrid fleet-and-platform model.
Hirers will also get preferential charging rates from CDG Energy and maintenance support from ComfortDelGro Engineering workshops.
The investment comes as electric vehicles made up about 60 percent of Singapore car registrations in the first four months of 2026, while BYD accounted for nearly 1 in 4 new cars.
It also aligns with Singapore’s push to increase electric vehicle use, including incentives for eligible electric cars and taxis, and a plan for 60,000 charging points by 2030.
Electric vehicle adoption in ride-hailing remains uneven, however, with many drivers hesitant because of charging downtime and limited access to chargers.
