Comcast plans to cut jobs at its main unit, which includes Xfinity internet, mobile, and pay TV, as part of an effort to centralize operations and improve its broadband business, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The company will remove a management layer between corporate and regional offices starting January, with regional leaders reporting directly to a new executive overseeing nationwide operations.

Comcast is still deciding which roles will move to headquarters, and the exact number of job cuts has not been disclosed.

Customer-facing teams, including those in customer service and retail, will not be affected.

The move follows subscriber losses in its broadband business due to competition from wireless rivals like AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

Comcast previously centralized functions like ad and finance and shifted to national pricing for its internet services.
