Coinbase CEO’s biotech startup NewLimit bags $130m series B

NewLimit, a biotechnology startup focused on extending healthy human lifespan through cell reprogramming, has raised US$130 million in a series B funding round.

NewLimit was founded over four years ago by Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong, former GV partner Blake Byers, and stem cell researcher Jacob Kimmel.

The company reports progress in developing treatments aimed at restoring youthful characteristics to aged cells.

The round was led by Kleiner Perkins and included investors Nat Friedman, Daniel Gross, and Khosla Ventures, alongside returning backers Founders Fund, Elad Gil, Garry Tan, and Patrick Collison.

According to Byers, the company has identified three prototype medicines for reprogramming liver cells. These prototypes have shown potential to improve the cells’ ability to process fat and alcohol in laboratory experiments.
