CNN, Reuters now require you to pay for their news
CNN and Reuters announced Tuesday the launch of digital paywalls, marking a turn to subscription-based revenue models among leading news outlets.
Starting Tuesday, CNN will charge American users US$3.99 a month for access to its digital content, initially allowing readers a certain number of free articles before requiring a subscription.
Separately, Reuters will launch digital subscriptions globally at US$1 per week, beginning in Canada before expanding to several European countries and ultimately the United States. The news agency will also allow a limited number of free articles before implementing a paywall.
These transitions to paywalls reflect a trend among news organizations adapting to financial pressures from declining advertising revenue in the digital space.
