CMT Digital leads $16m round for bitcoin mining firm Luxor

Luxor Technology, a US-based company that provides energy, hardware, trading, and software services to bitcoin miners, said on October 27 it raised US$16 million in a strategic round led by CMT Digital, the venture arm of Chicago-based trading firm CMT Group.

The round also included Canaan, Halo, MicroBT, and Steelhead. Luxor has described its new AI unit as an AI infrastructure business built on its existing compute and data center capabilities.

Luxor said the move reflects a shift toward using some bitcoin mining infrastructure for AI computing. One market analysis describes this as miners redirecting power and data center capacity to AI workloads.

Canaan had already partnered with Luxor to expand institutional miner financing, making the hardware company both an investor and an existing commercial partner.
