Cloudflare teams up with Google Cloud’s Wiz on AI security

Cloudflare said in Singapore that it has partnered with Wiz, a cloud security company now part of Google Cloud.

The partnership will integrate Cloudflare’s AI Security for Apps with Wiz’s Security Graph, giving security teams a single view of AI applications and risks across their systems.

Cloudflare said the integration can find large language model endpoints on web properties, inspect traffic for prompt injection and possible personal data leaks, map data flows between AI apps, models, data stores, and show which deployments lack Cloudflare protections.

The company also said the integration does not require extra agents or custom workflows.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Google’s US$32 billion bet on Wiz creates a new security titan

  • Google agreed to buy Wiz for US$32 billion, its biggest deal to date, which puts Wiz at the center of its security plans 1.
  • The deal aims to safeguard Google Cloud momentum while the ad business faces more volatility from AI-powered search shifts and tougher regulation 2.
  • Google says Wiz will keep its name and will continue to support several cloud providers, including Amazon Web Services, a major cloud computing platform, and Microsoft Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing platform 3, 4.
  • That multi-cloud approach helps Wiz keep working with industry partners, including Cloudflare 4.

The rise of ‘shadow AI’ creates a new market for security specialists

  • The partnership focuses on “shadow AI,” where software developers ship AI features like chatbots or copilots faster than corporate security teams can track them 5.
  • Every added AI endpoint can open a path for attackers, including prompt injection or sensitive data theft, threats that conventional security tools often fail to cover 5, 6.
  • The combined offering points to a shift toward specialized defenses that work across different AI models 7.
  • Cloudflare and Wiz aim to provide protections that apply across AI models and cloud providers, which positions them as a base security layer for companies adopting AI 5.
