Cloudflare said on June 5 that it acquired VoidZero, a startup building open-source JavaScript and TypeScript developer tools.

The company also said founder Evan You and his team would join the firm.

Cloudflare said Vite, a widely used front-end build tool created by You, had more than 130 million weekly downloads.

The company said the deal would combine VoidZero’s build tools with Cloudflare’s network to speed up moving software from local development to production, including software generated by AI coding tools.

VoidZero was founded in 2024 to build a unified, open-source toolchain for JavaScript and TypeScript, and raised US$4.6 million in seed funding led by Accel.

You is also the creator of Vue.js, and his move is notable in front-end development and open-source tooling.

The acquisition also adds to Cloudflare’s broader push to help developers deploy applications globally through Workers and its developer platform.

Cloudflare said Vite and related projects would remain open source, and that it would provide US$1 million to an independent resource for community contributors outside Cloudflare and VoidZero.
