Citigroup to cut 1,000 jobs in latest cost-saving push
Citigroup is cutting about 1,000 jobs this week as part of a broader cost-reduction plan led by CEO Jane Fraser.
The New York-based bank, which had 227,000 employees as of September, aims to eliminate 20,000 roles by the end of 2026.
The layoffs reflect efforts to streamline operations and adjust staffing to current business needs.
Citigroup has been restructuring since Fraser became CEO in 2021, including exiting several international retail markets.
CFO Mark Mason said the firm aims to reduce headcount to about 180,000 by 2026, including staff leaving after a planned IPO of its Mexico retail unit.
