CIMB Niaga taps Google Cloud for customer-facing AI tools

PT Bank CIMB Niaga Tbk in Indonesia is working with Google Cloud and Artefact to launch two AI agents for relationship managers and contact center teams on Vertex AI.

The companies said one tool will help managers track economic shifts and tailor advice, while another will help service teams surface product suggestions during customer interactions.

CIMB Niaga’s AI Center of Excellence (CoE) and Artefact also built a centralized knowledge system using Google Cloud data and managed database services to give the agents domain-specific information.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

CIMB Niaga’s AI agents build on a multi-year cloud modernization effort

  • The AI agents build on the bank’s earlier shift of data systems to Google Cloud. That work moved 100 terabytes from the bank’s own servers into BigQuery, Google Cloud’s data warehouse service 1.
  • The same program updated about 2,100 data processing workflows with Cloud Data Fusion, a Google tool for building and managing data pipelines. This work supports the centralized knowledge system behind the agents 1.
  • Earlier in 2026, the bank moved its on-premises Pega customer service system to Pega Cloud, Pega’s cloud-hosted platform for customer service and workflow software. The bank described this as a first-of-its-kind modernization in Indonesia, while IT services company Virtusa linked the go-live to stronger resilience plus ongoing security and regulatory compliance 2.

CIMB Niaga’s move fits a wider push to scale enterprise AI in Southeast Asia

  • The rollout ties into claims that AI could add US$1 trillion to Southeast Asia’s economy by 2030, though the provided sources do not substantiate that figure 3.
  • A LinkedIn post cited Boston Consulting Group data that puts Indonesia’s worker use of generative AI at 92%. The provided sources do not verify the number beyond that post 3.
  • The partnership between Indonesian bank CIMB Niaga, Google Cloud, plus Artefact, a French data and AI consulting firm, offers one example of banks teaming up with cloud providers and specialist consultancies to deploy enterprise AI 4.
  • Materials for France–Indonesia Innovation Year 2026 describe an effort to strengthen bilateral partnership in education, research, scientific mobility, plus creative industries. They also position Indonesia as a key innovation hub in Southeast Asia 4.
