Chips Act changes put Samsung, SK hynix US plans at risk

The US government may adjust Chips Act subsidies, creating uncertainty for South Korean chipmakers Samsung Electronics and SK hynix.

Commerce Secretary, Howard Lutnick, reportedly seeks increased US investments before granting funds.

Lutnick is encouraging global chipmakers to follow Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company’s US$100 billion US investment without extra subsidies.

The Commerce Department is also reviewing potential changes to the 25% tax credit and may withhold previously approved subsidies, adding further uncertainty for Samsung and SK hynix.
