Chipmakers NXP, Vanguard consider expanding SG plant

NXP Semiconductors NV and Vanguard International Semiconductor Corp. are considering expanding their joint chip manufacturing facility in Singapore.

This US$7.8 billion project is part of their ongoing plan, with the next phase awaiting formal approval.

The joint venture aims to produce chips with technology ranging from 130-nanometers to 40-nanometers.

These chips are vital for uses in power control for automotive, industrial, consumer, and mobile products.

The plant is expected to create 1,500 jobs and be operational by 2027.
