Chinese university launches undergraduate embodied AI major

Shanghai Jiao Tong University has introduced an undergraduate major in embodied AI, described as the world’s first of its kind.

The four-year program, under the School of Artificial Intelligence, will admit 30 students in its first year and award an engineering degree.

The curriculum covers the full chain from perception and decision-making to control and physical design.

The university said it will use internal research resources and draw on practice bases co-developed with industry partners, including Huawei and the National-Local Joint Innovation Center for Humanoid Robots.

The program aims to address a shortage of hybrid technical talent and support efforts to move embodied AI from early-stage research toward industrial deployment.
