Chinese smart glasses maker Xreal raises $100m funding
Xreal, a smart glasses manufacturer based in China, has raised US$100 million from supply chain partners and other investors, said CEO Chi Xu.
The company, valued at over US$1 billion, announced two new models at the CES trade show in Las Vegas, including an upgraded entry-level pair.
Xreal is also working with Google to develop smart glasses using the Android XR platform, with a launch targeted for 2026.
Competition in the smart glasses sector is intensifying, with Meta leading the market through its AI-enabled Ray-Bans, and Apple reported to be prioritizing the development of its own smart glasses.
Xreal’s CEO said the company sees opportunities despite competition and does not expect the market to settle on a single form factor soon.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Xreal’s $100M raise looks modest compared to its near-invisible market share
- Despite a valuation above $1 billion and a $100 million raise, Xreal held 4.1% of the combined AR/VR plus display-less smart glasses market (smart glasses without on-lens displays) in Q2 2025 12. Its overall share was 2% in Q3, with strength in premium display glasses above $350 12. Meta led with 60.6% in Q2 and 75.7% in Q3 after combining Quest headsets with Ray-Ban glasses 12. Revenue and shipment volumes remain undisclosed 1. That uncertainty clouds the impact of the funding or the CES launches against Meta’s scale, plus retail reach 1.
Xreal’s Android XR device timeline targets 2026, creating a near-term window for developers and middleware providers
- Google’s Android extended reality (XR) software development kit (SDK) Developer Preview 3 supports AI glasses, wired XR glasses like Xreal’s Project Aura, and headsets 34. Project Aura is the code name for its glasses with a 70 degree field of view (FOV) 34. Tools include Jetpack Compose Glimmer, Google’s UI toolkit for spatial experiences, and ARCore face tracking 34. The SDK also works with Unity (real-time 3D engine) and OpenXR (cross-vendor XR standard) 53. It supports WebXR (web standard for AR/VR) and Godot (open-source game engine) 53. Developers plus independent software vendors (ISVs) can target Samsung Galaxy XR, with Xreal’s Aura expected in 2026 34. Most Android apps already run on XR devices without modification, but standout experiences need early work on spatial user interfaces (UIs) plus ARCore perception application programming interfaces (APIs) such as depth maps or body tracking 53.
