Chinese rocket firm LandSpace ramps up competition with SpaceX
LandSpace, a Beijing-based private rocket company, became the first in China to test a reusable rocket earlier this month at the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center.
The test, involving the Zhuque-3 rocket, ended in failure when the booster was unable to complete a controlled landing.
LandSpace, which aims to offer a low-cost launch option similar to SpaceX’s Falcon 9, is preparing for a public listing to fund future projects.
The push for reusable rockets aligns with China’s plans to deploy large satellite constellations in the coming decades.
Elon Musk noted similarities between Zhuque-3 and SpaceX vehicles, saying the Chinese rocket uses features from both Falcon 9 and Starship.
