Alibaba-backed Chinese robovan operator Zelos eyes $600m HK IPO

Chinese robovan operator Zelos Technology is planning a Hong Kong IPO that could raise about US$600 million.

The company, formally known as Jiushi Suzhou Intelligent Technology Co., is in talks with banks and the size and timing of the share sale could still change.

Founded in 2021, Zelos supplies autonomous delivery trucks and runs more than 25,000 vehicles across China, and operates in Singapore, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and other parts of Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

Alibaba’s logistics unit Cainiao became a shareholder earlier this year.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

The IPO rests on more than Alibaba funding

  • Cainiao, Alibaba’s logistics arm, became a shareholder earlier this year. Its ties to Zelos run further. In early 2026, Cainiao folded its unmanned vehicle unit into Zelos through cash plus asset injections 1.
  • That transaction expanded Zelos fast. Its fleet grew from 2,000 vehicles in 2024 to more than 20,000 after the integration 2.
  • After the deal, Cainiao stopped making and selling autonomous vehicles itself. It now centers on logistics work plus enterprise robovan clients 1.
  • Zelos now runs two brands. It uses its own name for technology products, while the licensed “Cainiao Autonomous Vehicle” name serves certain logistics work plus enterprise customers 1.

A Chinese robovan IPO hints at a wider turn in autonomous vehicles

  • Zelos’s offering would back a broader investor shift. Money is moving away from speculative robotaxis, self-driving taxis, toward autonomous logistics with nearer-term returns 3.
  • The company says it can lower last-mile delivery costs by about 50%. It also says parcel costs can fall by half 2.
  • A strong IPO would raise the bar for Western autonomous vehicle rivals, many of which remain in limited pilots 4. Zelos says it expects to deliver more than 1,000 vehicles overseas by the end of 2025 5.
  • The company’s progress suggests autonomous driving profits may come from owning specific operating settings, a model rivals may need to copy 3. Zelos expects to break even, including research and development costs, once its fleet reaches about 50,000 vehicles 2.
