Chinese robotics startup Robotera raises over $200m

Chinese robotics firm Robotera raised over US$200 million in a round led by SF Group after a 1 billion yuan (US$147 million) strategic round in March.

HSG, IDG Capital, Hillhouse Investment, and CICC Capital joined the round along with Kengic, Dongfeng Asset Investment, ICBC Capital and funds linked to China Unicom.

Robotera said its robots are operating in more than 10 logistics centers with China Post and SF Group.

The company also said it began thousand-unit deliveries in the second quarter of 2026 as it expands into automotive, electronics, and services.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

ROBOTERA has industry support and makes broad technical claims

  • ROBOTERA raised money from a wide group of backers beyond logistics, including Alibaba, Geely Capital, and Lenovo across ecommerce, automotive, and technology 1.
  • Those ties give the company places to test robots in real settings. ROBOTERA says that helped it reach an early match between its product and customer demand in embodied intelligence 1.
  • The company says it builds almost all hardware itself, with more than 95% of core parts made in-house, including a direct-drive dexterous hand, a robot hand built for finer and more flexible movement 1.
  • ROBOTERA says technology companies and research groups including Boston Dynamics, NVIDIA, and Apple use this hardware 1.

China’s robotics push shapes the funding backdrop

  • China has raised humanoid robots to the level of a “disruptive product” alongside smartphones and new energy vehicles (NEVs), according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), China’s top industry regulator 2.
  • Support comes from national, regional, and city programs. These include a National Venture Capital Guidance Fund, regional funds set to spend 1 trillion yuan (US$147 billion) over 20 years, plus subsidies and compute vouchers that help cover computing costs 3.
  • China has about 150 humanoid robot makers in the race. That crowd could help some companies build scale and cut costs 3.
  • In some cases, the same state bodies that guide industry also oversee defense science along with technology under military-civil fusion, a system meant to connect civilian innovation with military work 2.
