Chinese robotics firm Unitree eyes stock listing in 2025

Hangzhou-based Unitree Technology plans to file for a listing on a Chinese stock exchange as soon as next month, the company said in a post on X.

Unitree is known for developing consumer and industrial robots, including the Go1 robotic dog.

The filing, expected between October and December, will offer a look into the company’s financials.

Unitree submitted a pre-listing application in July but has not disclosed which exchange it will choose.

The company reported annual revenue above 1 billion yuan (US$140 million) in June.

Unitree is focused on civilian applications for its robots, addressing reports that its robot dogs were used in Chinese military drills.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ Chinese robotics companies are capitalizing on surging military and industrial demand

Unitree’s IPO timing coincides with significant growth in the global military robotics market, which is projected to expand from $19.2 billion in 2023 to $46.3 billion by 20321.

This represents a 10.27% compound annual growth rate driven by rising geopolitical tensions and government investments in unmanned systems to reduce soldier casualties1.

The company has already demonstrated commercial traction beyond consumer applications, securing a 46.05 million yuan contract for 200 humanoid robots2.

This shift toward practical deployments reflects broader market maturation, as the total number of robots sold in China reached 19,000 units, with humanoid robots capturing 42% of the market2.

Unitree’s $140 million annual revenue and $1.7 billion valuation following a $97.6 million Series C round3 positions it well to benefit from this military modernization cycle, especially given that 50% of its sales now come from international markets4.

2️⃣ Affordability strategy differentiates Unitree in competitive robotics landscape

Unitree’s approach of offering humanoid robots under $6,000 through its R1 model contrasts sharply with higher-priced competitors like Tesla’s Optimus3.
