🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ Private equity’s semiconductor exit strategy highlights industry growth
Wise Road Capital’s potential $3 billion sale of UTAC showcases strong returns in the rapidly growing semiconductor testing sector.
The Beijing-based private equity firm acquired UTAC just five years ago in 2020, and the rumored sale price suggests significant value creation in a short timeframe, reflecting the strategic importance of assembly and testing services in the global chip supply chain.
This aligns with broader market projections showing the semiconductor assembly and testing services market growing from $34.94 billion in 2024 to $37.45 billion in 2025, representing a 7.2% annual growth rate 1.
Looking further ahead, the outsourced semiconductor assembly and testing (OSAT) market is projected to reach $79.91 billion by 2030, growing at an 11.57% CAGR from 2025 2.
This growth is being driven by increasing demand for advanced packaging technologies, the widespread adoption of IoT devices, and the automotive industry’s shift toward electric vehicles requiring sophisticated semiconductor components.
2️⃣ Chinese semiconductor investment adapts to geopolitical realities
Wise Road Capital’s potential divestiture of Singapore-based UTAC reflects broader shifts in Chinese semiconductor investment strategy amid increased global scrutiny.
