Chinese home-cleaning robot maker Narwal raises $100m
Chinese home-cleaning robot maker Narwal has raised US$100 million to ramp up development of its next-generation embodied cleaning robots and accelerate global expansion. The round was co-led by Tencent Investment and the Beijing Robotics Industry Investment Fund, with participation from Sci-Fi VC and Future Capital. Gengxin Capital served as exclusive financial advisor.
The startup is developing a robot capable of managing three-dimensional household cleaning and storage tasks. The product, which features a proprietary mobile base, robotic arm, and 3D visual sensing system, is expected to launch within two years. Narwal said the funds will support R&D, overseas expansion, and multi-category product strategy. It has also begun raising a pre-IPO round ahead of a planned listing.
In 2024, Narwal more than doubled its revenue, while overseas sales grew nearly 7x year on year. The company currently operates in over 70 cities across China with more than 500 retail outlets. Internationally, it has entered 50-plus markets and partnered with retailers such as Best Buy and Costco in North America.
Looking ahead, Narwal expects to expand into more than 70 new countries in 2025 and will set up local teams in key markets, including Germany, France, Japan, and Australia, to support localization efforts.

🧠 Food for thought
1️⃣ The vacuum cleaner industry is approaching its “iPhone moment” with embodied AI
The robotic vacuum market is on the verge of a transformation similar to what smartphones brought to mobile computing, with embodied intelligence as the catalyst.
Traditional robotic vacuums have enjoyed steady growth, with the global market projected to reach $10.28 billion by 2027 (11.2% CAGR from 2020), but they’ve remained functionally limited to simple floor cleaning tasks 1.
This explains why historically nearly 50% of consumers remained skeptical about robotic vacuums’ effectiveness compared to traditional models 2.
Yunjing’s focus on embodied intelligence, giving robots spatial awareness and autonomous decision-making abilities, targets this key limitation by developing machines that can understand and navigate three-dimensional environments.
The broader cleaning robot market is accelerating even faster than basic vacuums, projected to reach $21.01 billion by 2030 with a 23.7% CAGR, signaling strong investor confidence in this technological evolution 3.
This transition mirrors the evolution from single-purpose mobile phones to smartphones. Yunjing’s founder references this analogy, describing current robot vacuums as being in the “iPod stage” with a transformative moment coming when they become fully autonomous spatial agents.
2️⃣ Chinese robotics firms are replicating the global expansion playbook of other tech sectors
Chinese robotic vacuum companies like Yunjing are following a strategic internationalization path that resembles earlier waves of Chinese tech expansion in sectors like smartphones and e-commerce.
They’re leveraging domestic scale advantages, such as China’s robot vacuum market growing 40% year-on-year in 2024 with Q4 alone up 76%, to fund international R&D and expansion efforts.
