Chinese developer takes on Apple over monopoly, app removal
A Beijing intellectual property court has begun hearing a case involving Apple and Chinese developer Beijing Bodyreader Technology Ltd.
The lawsuit challenges Apple’s app store practices in China, a major mobile market.
Bodyreader, which developed a children’s posture app, is seeking US$420,000 in damages after Apple removed the app in 2020 for “dishonest” behavior.
The lawsuit also challenges Apple’s monopolistic practices and its 30% fee on app purchases.
Bodyreader wants third-party app stores and external links allowed on Apple’s platform.
