Chinese chipmakers to boost advanced chip production: report
Chinese leading chipmakers, including SMIC and Hua Hong Semiconductor, plan to increase their production of advanced semiconductors, according to Nikkei.
The companies are working on manufacturing chips with 7-nanometer and 5-nanometer technology levels to support growing AI applications.
China aims to raise its output of advanced chips to 100,000 wafers within one to two years, up from less than 20,000 currently, and has a target to add 500,000 wafers of capacity by 2030.
Several Huawei-linked chipmakers are also expanding or starting production of cutting-edge chips.
