Chinese chipmaker Montage starts CXL 3.2 chip production
China-based Montage Technology, a chip designer focused on memory interface and interconnect products, said on July 31 it had begun trial production of what it described as the industry’s first Compute Express Link (CXL) 3.2 memory expansion controller chip for AI, cloud computing, and data centers.
The chip supports data transfer rates of up to 64 GT/s, includes dual DDR5 controllers, and supports DDR5 memory up to 8000 MT/s.
Montage said the controller converts host-side CXL memory requests into DDR commands in real time, enabling memory expansion and resource pooling through add-in cards and Enterprise and Datacenter Standard Form Factor (EDSFF) modules.
Its specifications indicate it targets the latest PCIe 6.x/CXL speed class.
The launch expands Montage’s server memory business. The company already sells DDR2-to-DDR5 memory interface chips for cloud and data center customers and said its products have been widely adopted by memory module makers.
Montage also said the controller has been integrated into next-generation products from Samsung and SK hynix, with initial validation completed, and is designed to align with Intel Xeon and AMD EPYC server platforms.
