Hygon Information Technology, a Chinese chipmaker focused on data center processors, will unveil a new chip in Shenzhen on September 22 for robotics and other AI systems that interact with the physical world.

According to company information, Hygon said on its WeChat account that the launch event would carry the slogan “Let computing power reach the physical world”.

The chip, an iteration of Hygon’s CPU1000 series, is designed for low-power, embedded, and edge-computing use. Target applications include machine vision and intelligent manufacturing.

The launch comes as China backs embodied AI as part of its robotics strategy, with policymakers viewing smart robots as a way to raise productivity and respond to demographic pressure.
