Chinese chipmaker GigaDevice opens Singapore HQ

Semiconductor company GigaDevice has opened its global headquarters in Singapore as part of its international expansion strategy.

Founded in 2005, GigaDevice specializes in Flash memory, 32-bit microcontrollers, sensors, and analog products.

The new headquarters in Singapore will operate alongside the company’s group headquarters in Beijing.

Jennifer Zhao, GigaDevice’s Global Business CEO, said that Singapore’s strategic location, infrastructure, and pro-innovation environment were significant factors in the decision to establish the headquarters.

The company plans to use the new location to expand its international presence and strengthen its global supply chain and ecosystem.

🧠 Food for thought

1️⃣ GigaDevice positions for AI-driven memory market surge

GigaDevice’s strategic headquarters move coincides with a projected 11.2% growth in the global semiconductor market, expected to reach $697 billion in 2025 1.

The memory segment specifically is forecast to surge by more than 24% due to increasing demand for high-end components required in AI applications 2.

As the second-largest player in SPI NOR Flash with 20.4% market share, GigaDevice is strategically positioned to capitalize on this growth, particularly as memory becomes increasingly critical for edge AI and IoT applications.

The company’s established presence in both memory and microcontrollers creates a strong foundation as these components become essential building blocks for the AI-driven devices powering industrial automation and automotive sectors.

This expansion reflects industry-wide positioning for the next wave of semiconductor growth, with specialized memory producers leveraging their expertise as AI applications drive memory requirements beyond conventional needs.

2️⃣ Singapore emerges as neutral ground in semiconductor geopolitics

GigaDevice’s decision to establish its global headquarters in Singapore while maintaining its group headquarters in China reflects the delicate balancing act semiconductor companies must navigate in today’s geopolitical environment.

Singapore is set to benefit from semiconductor industry expansion in the Asia Pacific region, which is projected to dominate with a 36.90% market share in 2025, growing from $185.61 billion in 2021 to $247.38 billion 3.
