Chinese AI startup MiniMax unveils M3 as listing nears
MiniMax, a Shanghai-based Chinese AI start-up, unveiled M3 on June 1, its latest model for coding agents and automated workflows, as it explores a Shanghai STAR Market listing alongside its Hong Kong listing plans.
The company said M3 can process up to 1 million tokens at once, use one-twentieth of the computing required by earlier models, and process data 5x faster than its predecessor, M2.7. MiniMax did not disclose M3’s size or the computing infrastructure used to train it.
MiniMax said M3 outperformed OpenAI and Google models on SWE-Bench Pro, a coding benchmark that evaluates AI software engineering agents on 1,865 tasks and addresses to reduce data contamination issues seen in earlier tests.
The launch came after MiniMax hired advisers for a possible Shanghai listing, according to a Hong Kong stock exchange filing. The company previously raised US$300 million at a US$4 billion valuation.
