Chinese AI chipmaker Biren weighs $1b share sale

Shanghai-based Biren Technology, a graphics processing unit developer focused on AI chips, is considering another share sale that could raise about US$1 billion after the 90-day lockup from its July fundraising ends in early October, according to people familiar with the matter.

Biren raised about US$900 million in July. Banks are in the early stages of sounding out investor interest, the people said.

The company has not finalized the size or structure of any deal and could still decide not to proceed.

Chinese AI companies are raising more capital to compete in advanced models and related infrastructure. Z.AI Co., also known as Zhipu, announced a US$5 billion stock and convertible bond sale after a US$4 billion deal in July.
