China’s WeRide to raise $308m in Hong Kong IPO

WeRide plans to raise HK$2.4 billion (US$308 million) through a Hong Kong share sale, according to sources familiar with the deal.

The Guangzhou-based autonomous driving firm is set to price its shares at HK$27.10 (US$3.49) each, below its earlier maximum of HK$35 (US$4.5), with about 88 million shares on offer.

The offer price is nearly 4% lower than WeRide’s last closing price on the Nasdaq, where one American depositary share equals three ordinary shares.

WeRide, which listed in the US in 2024 and is valued at US$3.4 billion, is expected to debut in Hong Kong on November 6, the same day as competitor Pony AI.

Proceeds from the listing will go toward developing technology, expanding robotaxi and ride-hailing services, and overseas growth.

Key investors in the share sale include Uber, Grab, Temasek, and Robert Bosch, according to people familiar with the matter.

China International Capital Corp. and Morgan Stanley are joint sponsors of the offering, with JP Morgan also involved.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

WeRide raised HK$2.4 billion with modest dilution

  • The HK$2.4 billion (US$308 million) round equals about 9% of the US$3.4 billion valuation, so dilution stays small 1. Q1 2025 revenue reached RMB 72.4 million (US$10.0 million) while operating expenses rose 14.2% year over year to RMB 463.5 million (US$63.9 million), driven by a 48.4% jump in personnel costs to hire engineers 1.
  • Pricing below the HK$35 maximum and a near 4% discount to the last Nasdaq close hint at investor caution on near-term profit, even with over 1,200 autonomous vehicles on roads worldwide 1. People familiar with the matter named Uber and Grab (a Southeast Asian ride-hailing and delivery company) as investors 2. Temasek (Singapore’s state investment firm) joined with Robert Bosch (a German automotive technology supplier) 2. The interest leans on technology partnerships, given the expanded Uber collaboration across 15 new cities 2.

Overseas robotaxi (driverless taxi) rollout lifts demand for support infrastructure

  • The plan adds 15 cities across Europe and the Middle East over the next five years 23. This builds on an Abu Dhabi launch and a rollout to Dubai 23. Software and mapping vendors get near-term work in high-definition mapping 23. Telecom and cloud firms see demand for network build-outs, managed services 23. WeRide partnered with Tencent Cloud (the cloud computing division of Tencent) in May 2025 to support overseas expansion with localized cloud platforms and compliance tools 4.
  • B2B software or service firms can time pitches to Riyadh operations launched in October 2025, plus fleet growth in Abu Dhabi toward 50 vehicles by mid 2025 53. Robotaxis will plug into Uber’s app, with Uber running fleet operations 2. Vendors should court WeRide as well as Uber’s stack for teleoperations (remote monitoring plus human-in-the-loop assistance), payment processing, and fleet management tools 2.
