China’s Unitree ships over 5,500 humanoid robots in 2025

China’s Unitree Robotics shipped more than 5,500 pure full-body, bipedal humanoid robots in 2025, according to a source familiar with the matter.

The Hangzhou-based company increased production ahead of its planned mainland listing.

This figure surpasses roughly 150 units each shipped by US companies such as Tesla, Figure AI, and Agility Robotics last year.

Industry reports estimate Unitree’s total output exceeded 6,000 units, excluding wheeled models and other robot types.

Market research firms Omdia and Counterpoint Research ranked AgiBot as the top humanoid robot manufacturer globally by shipments and installations, with Unitree second.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Shipments mean little without revenue and customer data

  • A figure of 5,500 humanoids shipped was reported, but the business impact cannot be judged without the average selling price and the customer mix.
  • Unitree’s G1 model pricing has been listed from a ¥2,980,000 (approx. US$20,000) “Basic” version in Japan to R&D models starting at ¥5,980,000, according to TechShare, a Japanese distributor 1, plus another (unverified) price list with a US$16,000 to US$53,400 range 2.
  • Unitree’s website has been used to market its larger H1 model as “Price below $90k” 3.
  • Without a split of how many units were sold at each price, revenue cannot be estimated from shipment counts.
  • Buyer details must be pinned down to learn whether demand is being driven by research labs and the automotive sector, as suggested by the 100+ units sold in Japan, or by industrial clients using robots in day to day work.

Overseas deployments heighten demand for safety and compliance services

  • Third-party testing labs and safety consultants can expect more work as Chinese humanoids enter overseas markets.
  • Because these robots are classed as machines, they must meet rules like the EU Machinery Regulation plus standards such as ISO 10218 (an international safety standard for industrial robots), revised in 2025 4.
  • For service robots in commercial settings, UL (a safety certification organisation) says that on 31 Dec 2025 OSHA (the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration) added UL 3300 to the NRTL Program (Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory Program) list of appropriate test standards 5.
  • Specialist firms can sell testing, risk assessment, and validation services to help manufacturers like Unitree plus overseas buyers get certification for operation alongside humans.
