China’s Noetix Robotics launches humanoid robot Bumi at $1,380
Noetix Robotics, a Chinese startup, has introduced its new consumer humanoid robot Bumi at a price of RMB 9,998 (US$1,380), following a pre-B funding round that raised nearly RMB 300 million (US$41 million) led by Vertex Ventures.
Bumi, which stands 94 cm tall, is positioned as an educational and entertainment robot and is priced similarly to Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro Max in China.
Noetix said over 100 units sold within the first hour of launch, and 500 units were purchased within two days on JD.com.
The company cites Bumi’s lower production cost to vertically integrated design, use of composite materials to reduce weight, and reliance on locally sourced components.
Noetix plans to scale production to 1,000 units per month by late 2025, operating factories in Beijing and Changzhou, with a third location in planning.
Bumi integrates with JD.com’s Joy Inside 2.0 ecosystem and supports open programming interfaces for developers.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Bumi’s costs stay murky without teardowns
- Noetix says more in-house design plus composite materials (mixed materials such as fiber-reinforced plastics) put price under $1,400; no independent teardown (hardware disassembly and analysis) verifies component quality, actuator (motorized joint) life, or battery beyond the stated 48‑volt/3.5‑ampere‑hour 12. There are no independent performance benchmarks (standardized tests) for walking speed, balance recovery metrics (how quickly stability returns after a push or slip), or safety certifications 3.
- The robot weighs 12 kg with a 94 cm frame, which hints at limits in payload capacity (how much it can carry) and degrees of freedom (number of independent joint axes) vs. Unitree’s $5,900 R1 (from Unitree, a Chinese robotics maker of quadruped and humanoid robots) 3. Public info lists RGB cameras (color cameras), an IMU (inertial measurement unit), force sensors, plus ultrasonic sensors (sound-based distance sensors) 4; torque ratings (rotational force) and autonomy stay undisclosed.
Open APIs can unlock paid paths
- Open APIs (application programming interfaces that let others build on the platform) plus JD.com’s Joy Inside 2.0 integration (JD.com is a major Chinese e-commerce platform; Joy Inside links smart devices to its services) give makers a path; drag-and-drop programming support (a block-based coding interface) plus voice control 2 enable paid skills/curricula/interactive content.
- Noetix logged 500 units in two days 1, with monthly output planned at 1,000 by late 2025; teams that learn the SDK (Software Development Kit) docs plus secure early distribution deals on JD.com’s marketplace could win an early lead in China’s consumer humanoid content market.
