Moonshot AI, a Chinese AI startup, has begun offering its flagship Kimi K3 model through Amazon Web Services’ Amazon Bedrock platform, a move that could test how open-weight AI models generate revenue through third-party cloud platforms.

Open-weight models can generally be used, copied, modified, and distributed. Amazon said Kimi K3 gives Bedrock customers another option for coding and knowledge work.

Neither company disclosed financial terms.

But Moonshot revised Kimi K3’s license in July to require a paid arrangement if a company or its affiliates host the model as a service and generate more than US$20 million in annual revenue.

AWS said in July that its AI business had surpassed a US$25 billion annual revenue run rate.

Bedrock already offers multiple open-weight models, including the 18 fully managed models AWS announced in 2025, alongside other supported models.
