Chinese AI startup MiniMax Group, a Shanghai-based developer of multimodal AI models and consumer apps such as Talkie and Hailuo AI, is developing an open-weight language model with 2.7 trillion parameters, according to a person with direct knowledge.

If released, it would surpass China’s current 1.6 trillion-parameter models, including Meituan’s LongCat-2.0 and DeepSeek’s V4-Pro.

It would also be larger than publicly disclosed open-weight models such as Llama 3.1 405B.

MiniMax also plans to launch H3, its multimodal video-generation model, later this month. MiniMax declined to comment.
