China’s Li Auto to launch AI smart glasses for its vehicles
Li Auto CEO Li Xiang said the Chinese EV maker will launch AI-powered smart glasses for its vehicles.
The AI glasses are expected to integrate with MindVLA, the company’s autonomous driving system introduced earlier this year.
Li said on social media that the new accessory aims to enhance the in-car experience for Li Auto users.
The company has been developing its own AI platform, incorporating spatial, linguistic, and behavioral intelligence into its products.
No launch date or pricing details have been disclosed for the AI glasses or the potential smart speaker.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
China’s road safety rules may limit AI glasses to passengers, not drivers
- Tighter road rules are coming after a fatal March 2025 crash involving a Xiaomi SU7 (Xiaomi’s electric sedan) 1. The Ministry of Public Security (China’s national law enforcement and public safety authority) warns drivers risk safety and legal trouble if hands or eyes are busy while assisted driving is engaged 1.
- Uncertainty now hangs over Li Auto’s planned AI-powered smart glasses 2. If drivers cannot use them, the buyer base shrinks versus windshield augmented reality navigation from XPeng and Huawei 2.
- Officials asked automakers to drop the term “autonomous driving” and use “assisted driving” 3. China will also bar exaggeration and false promotion of assisted-driving features, so Li Auto must spell out whether its AI glasses are driver-accessible or passenger-only 1.
Augmented reality (AR) hardware suppliers can target China’s fast-growing automotive Augmented Reality Head-Up Display (AR-HUD) market
- Component makers and optics firms can tap China’s AR-HUD surge, with installations set to top 1 million in 2025, up from 900,000 in 2024 2. Share hit 26% in 2024, up 300.7% year over year 2. An AR-HUD projects guidance and alerts onto the windshield so drivers can keep their eyes on the road.
- Supplier share remains split 4. Foryou Multimedia holds 22.8%, E-LEAD has 22.5% and Huawei has 18.0% 4. That mix opens room for imaging modules, optical engines (the core image-generation module) and display partners.
- Models priced 150,000 to 200,000 yuan see the highest AR-HUD penetration 2. Deepal S07 (an SUV from Deepal, a brand under Changan Automobile) posts 100% installation, which signals mid-market demand 2.
