China’s infrastructure seen as key AI advantage: Moonshot AI
China’s focus on infrastructure development is seen as an advantage in its AI industry, according to a panel at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Moonshot AI’s president, Zhang Yutong, highlighted China’s energy buildout, which has made electricity costs low and supports large-scale AI research.
The country’s expanding data centers, powered by abundant renewable energy in western regions, are expected to meet the rising electricity demand for AI training, with estimates reaching around 277 terawatt-hours by 2030.
Compared to the US, China’s energy growth provides a strategic edge amid global power shortages affecting US tech firms.
Chinese AI developers like Moonshot emphasize cost efficiency, building competitive models with significantly fewer resources than US counterparts.
Tencent’s senior vice president, Dowson Tong, noted that AI tools are increasingly automating tasks across product management, coding, and accounting within the company.
