China’s industrial robot output surpasses full-year 2024

China produced 595,000 industrial robots in the first nine months of 2025, exceeding its total output for 2024, official data showed.

The figure marks a 29.8% year-on-year rise as demand from the automotive, electronics, and new energy sectors drives automation.

Industrial robot exports surged 54.9% year-on-year, while output of service robots rose 16.3%.

The Chinese government’s latest five-year plan calls for further digital and intelligent upgrades in manufacturing.

Service robots are being explored for aged care, but adoption faces technical and practical hurdles.

Chen Luping of the China Centre for Information Industry Development said China is the world’s largest robot manufacturer and user, projecting the global robotics market to top US$400 billion by 2029.

🧠 Food for thought

Implications, context, and why it matters.

Production surge outpaces installation data, raising inventory questions

  • China produced 595,000 industrial robots in the first nine months of 2025, up 29.8%. Output alone does not confirm installations or whether makers are building inventory for expected demand.
  • The International Federation of Robotics counted 295,000 installations in China in 2024, so nine-month 2025 output is about double 1.
  • Robot density per 10,000 manufacturing workers and a sector breakdown for 2025 will clarify whether the surge marks faster automation or supply-side optimism.

Export boom creates openings for integrators and compliance providers

  • Robot exports reached $746 million in the first half of 2025. Shipments rose nearly 60% year over year, with Vietnam, Mexico and Thailand the top destinations as some production moves beyond the mainland 2.
  • Third-party system integrators are seeing more work in Southeast Asia and Latin America as Chinese manufacturers relocate lines 2. These independent firms design robots for local workflows, then handle programming and installation.
  • Compliance and certification specialists manage local safety and quality approvals 2. Chinese robots sell 30 to 35% below foreign rivals yet still require those approvals to ship and run.
  • Industrial automation distributors can earn margin by partnering early with Siasun (a major Chinese industrial robot maker), Jaka Robotics (a collaborative robot manufacturer), and Speedbot Robotics (an emerging Chinese robot producer) 2. Many of these manufacturers are expanding overseas without mature distribution networks.
