China’s iFlytek to open-source 2 edge AI models in September
China-based AI company iFlytek said it will open-source two edge-side general-purpose large models on September 1 and release its Spark X2.5 (293B) foundation model on September 7, expanding its AI lineup for in-vehicle systems, smart hardware, and Internet of Everything applications.
The smaller models, Spark X2.5-4B and Spark X2.5-1.7B, support native context windows of up to 1 million tokens and are designed to improve agents, mathematics, and general understanding, iFlytek said.
At its 2026 semi-annual results briefing, iFlytek also said it plans to launch a new flagship general-purpose model built entirely on domestically produced computing power at its 1024 Global Developer Festival.
That push for domestic computing follows an earlier iFlytek reasoning model trained entirely on Huawei AI chips, reflecting China’s broader effort to build local AI infrastructure.
