China’s EV industry is three to five years ahead of global rivals, according to BYD CEO Wang Chuanfu in a CCTV interview.

His comments came after a symposium led by Chinese President Xi Jinping, attended by top tech industry leaders.

Wang highlighted that China became the world’s largest auto exporter in 2023, surpassing Japan.

However, he noted challenges in EV exports due to US and EU tariffs, including a 17% tariff on BYD vehicles.

Despite these hurdles, Wang remains confident that strong consumer demand will drive success beyond protectionist policies.
