China’s CXMT sees H1 revenue rise pre-IPO
Changxin Memory Technologies, a Hefei-based memory chipmaker, said in a renewed prospectus that it expects first-half revenue of 110 billion yuan (US$16.2 billion) to 120 billion yuan (US$17.6 billion).
CXMT said rising DRAM prices are boosting demand ahead of its planned IPO.
The company said first-half net profit attributable to shareholders could reach 57 billion yuan (US$8.38 billion), while first-quarter revenue rose more than 700% year on year to 50.8 billion yuan (US$7.47 billion).
Its net profit was 25 billion yuan (US$3.68 billion) versus a 1.6 billion yuan (US$235 million) loss a year earlier.
Its listing is being watched as a sign of China’s progress in DRAM, a type of memory chip used to move data quickly between processors and memory in AI systems.

🧠 Food for thought
Implications, context, and why it matters.
Beyond standard DRAM, CXMT’s IPO narrative signals plans for AI memory
- Changxin Memory Technologies (CXMT) has made its profits from standard DRAM, yet it is aiming for the High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) market used in AI systems 1.
- If CXMT can make HBM3 in volume, it would place the company beside Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron Technology among top memory makers 1.
- CXMT has already sent HBM samples to Chinese AI chip developers, including Huawei, for testing. That suggests progress in customer review, though it does not confirm steady mass production 1.
- HBM sells for far more than commodity DRAM such as DDR5 and LPDDR5, the memory products CXMT has made so far 1.
A successful IPO could back China’s effort to build local HBM tools
- CXMT’s expansion could give China’s wafer-fab-equipment and chip-packaging tool makers a large homegrown customer as export controls push the country toward self-reliance 1.
- China’s HBM plans depend more on local tools for etching, Through-Silicon Via (TSV) formation, bonding, and packaging or assembly. Naura Technology and Maxwell Semiconductor are among the domestic suppliers working on those systems 1.
- With more funding, CXMT could help test and scale domestic tools, though it is still unclear whether they are ready for high-volume output 1.
- Packaging and stacking yield, the share of usable chips, remains a hard cost problem because one error can spoil a full HBM package 1.
- China may need years to produce enough HBM to meet much of local demand due to back-end capacity limits and the time needed to lift yields 1.
