China’s CXMT reports $8.17b profit as memory demand cools

Chinese memory chipmaker CXMT reported revenue of 118.7 billion yuan (US$17.8 billion) for the three months ended September, while sequential revenue growth slowed to 19.3%, indicating that the AI-fuelled surge in Chinese memory prices may be easing.

The company reported net income of 54.4 billion yuan (US$8.17 billion), reversing a loss a year earlier, as it expanded its position in standard dynamic random-access memory, or DRAM, amid Beijing’s push to build domestic chip supply and reduce reliance on overseas suppliers such as Samsung and Micron.

CXMT also said it spent 11 billion yuan (US$1.65 billion) on research and development in the first nine months and planned a share buyback of up to 2 billion yuan (US$300 million).

Morningstar analyst Jing Jie Yu said higher memory prices were weighing on demand from consumer electronics customers, while TrendForce expected price growth for conventional memory to moderate in the second half of 2026.
