Chinese DRAM, or dynamic random-access memory, maker CXMT said on September 20 that its fifth-generation technology platform has entered mass production.

The Hefei-based memory chip company said the advance could give electronics makers another source of supply as Beijing seeks to reduce reliance on foreign semiconductor technology in response to US export controls.

CXMT said it used quadruple patterning to shrink key features in the memory-cell area to 11.95 nanometres. The company said this would allow more memory on each chip and more chips from each wafer.

CXMT also unveiled two 24-gigabit LPDDR5X products for smartphones and other portable devices, and said the products are already in mass production.

Public product information shows Micron also sells LPDDR5X components, but the available material did not specify 24-gigabit parts, limiting a direct capacity comparison.
