China’s AI industry expected to hit $170b in 2025: research
China’s core AI industry is projected to exceed 1.2 trillion yuan (US$170 billion) in 2025, according to the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT), a research institute under the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
CAICT said at a recent industry forum in Beijing that upgrades in large AI models this year have led to improvements in language and multi-modal processing.
The embodied intelligence sector, which combines AI and robotics, has secured over 40 billion yuan in new funding and includes more than 350 companies, the institute said.
CAICT also outlined a timeline for 6G, expecting China to begin commercial 6G applications around 2030, with large-scale deployment by 2035.
