China’s 2024 chip imports surge amid US restrictions
China’s integrated circuit (IC) imports totaled US$385 billion in 2024, a 10.4% increase from the previous year. The volume of chips imported reached 549.2 billion units, reflecting a 14.6% rise year on year, according to data from the General Administration of Customs.
This increase is driven by Chinese firms boosting semiconductor supplies in anticipation of stricter US export controls.
The Biden administration is expected to implement new measures to limit China’s access to advanced chips, raising concerns about the impact on Chinese businesses.
