China warns of bubble risk in humanoid robotics market
China’s National Development and Reform Commission has warned that the country’s fast-growing humanoid robotics industry faces the risk of an investment bubble.
The agency said at a Beijing briefing that more than 150 humanoid robot makers operate in China, with the number still rising.
Officials cautioned that a surge of similar products could crowd the market and reduce space for research and development.
Humanoid robotics is among six sectors identified by the Chinese government as future economic growth drivers in its current five-year plan.
Despite increased investor attention — reflected in a 26% rise this year in the Solactive China Humanoid Robotics Index — mass adoption of humanoid robots in homes or factories has not yet occurred.
Authorities plan to accelerate the development of fair market mechanisms, advance core technology research, and expand testing infrastructure.
The government also aims to encourage technology sharing and industry consolidation to support real-world applications of humanoid robots.
