The National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), which allocates funds for basic research, has urged that AI development focus on advancing intelligence rather than merely increasing computing power.

This statement follows discussions about AI models created by Hangzhou-based firm DeepSeek.

Lu Jianhua, deputy head of the NSFC, indicated that DeepSeek’s achievements reflect the current advanced stage of AI development.

He emphasized the need for breakthroughs in core technologies, integration of hardware and software, and practical industry applications to enhance autonomy in the AI sector.
