China unveils first national standards for humanoid robots

China unveiled its first national standard system for humanoid robotics at the Humanoid Robots and Embodied Intelligence Standardization (HEIS) meeting in Beijing.

The system is built on six pillars – foundational and common standards, neuromorphic and intelligent computing, limbs and components, full-system integration, application, and safety and ethics – to unify technical specifications, evaluation criteria, and interface protocols.

Committee experts said the framework aims to speed technological iteration, cut coordination and production costs, and help move humanoid robots from pilots to commercial deployment while embedding safety and ethical considerations.

The MIIT said last year is considered to have been China’s first year of humanoid robot mass production, with over 140 domestic makers releasing more than 330 models and deployments expanding into manufacturing, household services, healthcare, and elderly care.
