China unveils five-year tech plan on AI, 6G, humanoid robots

China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology announced a five-year plan focusing on advancing artificial intelligence, 6G, and humanoid robotics.

The plan aims to develop AI chips, accelerate 6G research, and set benchmarks for humanoid robots, including building an open-source community and releasing guidelines for embodied intelligence.

The government intends to promote AI integration across sectors such as software, biotech, and communications, while supporting industry standards and open-source initiatives.

Local governments, including Hangzhou, plan to develop leading open-source AI models and boost AI industry revenue, which is projected to exceed US$86 billion by 2030.

Officials also pledged to support emerging industries through pilot zones and increased government funding.
